Josh Corbin, ’25, has competed at the highest levels of competition as a member of the Hillsdale College Shotgun Team.
As a four-time All-American, he was a member of Team USA five different times and had a chance to travel the world to compete.
Now, he is content helping other Chargers have the same experience. After graduating in May, Corbin is now serving as an assistant coach for the Shotgun Team as well as working as operations manager of Outdoor Programs for the College.
“I’m very excited to be back,” said Corbin, a Wisconsin native. “I don’t know if I could have found a better job right out of college. It’s exactly what I wanted to do.”
Corbin’s new role will be supporting the College’s outdoors-related programs, including many at the Halter Shooting Sports Education Center. He will also assist Head Shotgun Coach Jordan Hintz as the Chargers again compete for national championships.
“I’ll be helping out with hunting retreats, fishing retreats, and also the Liberty Shooting Camps,” he said of his operations manager role. “We’ll go on educational hunting and fishing trips and do some fun things throughout the school year.”
On the coaching side, he will also be able to work with his sister, Madeline, ’27, one of the Shotgun program’s top shooters and a member of Team USA.
“She’ll take some pointers every now and then,” he said of his younger sister, who followed in his footsteps both in high school and college. “I’ve learned over the years when she wants my advice and when she can figure it out on her own.
“We’ve always been on the same team. We’re competitive, but I would say we push each other in a healthy way. We both want to see each other do well. Obviously they separate the male and female divisions, so we’re not in direct competition with each other.”
Although he still shoots from time to time (he recently put up a perfect 100 score at a sporting clays fundraiser), he said his competitive shooting days are behind him.
“I was shooting 20,000 rounds a year, and I won’t come anywhere near that,” Corbin said. “It takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication to be at that competitive level. I know I could do it if I wanted to, but I would rather focus on other things in my life right now.”
One major focus is his wife, Jessica (Strasser), ’25, a former Shotgun teammate whom he married in June. She also is a new assistant coach for Chargers Shotgun, and they have agreed to coach the Hillsdale Academy shooting team.
They recently bought a home in Hillsdale and are focused on getting settled both at home and in their new roles for the College.
“I’m very fortunate to have a job that takes all of my interests and combines them into one job,” Corbin said.
Doug Goodnough, ’90, is Hillsdale’s senior director of Alumni Marketing. He enjoys connecting with fellow alumni in new and wonderful ways.
